Who we are...

W. Coleman & Son is a true family business started with William (Bill) Coleman, the founder of the business, moving from London to Eakring in 1989 and opening a local village shop. The decision came from William's never ending love for Nottingham Forest and his want to go to the City Ground to watch his team play more regularly. So the move to Nottinghamshire was perfect.

Shortly after buying the shop, William also took on the local milk round which has now become W.Coleman & Son. The milk round started off as just an extension of the shop and only delivered in Eakring and a few surrounding villages with a handful of calls. As the milk round developed, Robert, the current owner, joined his dad in delivering milk. The milk round grew and took on Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe and Farnsfield, which are still some of our delivery areas now. Due to this, we employed Jon (Roberts brother-in-law) in 1992 and he has been working for us since.

Due to further expansion, we had to take on more milkmen so, Shaun (Jon's nest friend) became part of our W.Coleman & Son family in 2003 and Steve (Shaun's nephew) in 2012, who are both still part of our amazing company now

However, the companies success was limited for many years due to supermarket prices, which as such a small business at the time delivering to doorsteps, we were unable to compete with. Nevertheless, we persevered and we have now become a local successful family business.

Between 2018 and 2020 we took on more milkmen to help us grow and deliver to more doorsteps in the local area. We welcomed Kieran (Robert's son) in 2018 to complete a business management apprenticeship after his A-Levels and Andy in 2019, who is still a key part of our amazing team.

This success is due to the hard work of William, Robert and all the milkmen involved in the growth of W.Coleman & Son. The introduction of the BBC programme 'Blue Planet' and the ability to offer a doorstep delivery service throughout the horrific time of Covid has allowed our business to develop to the next level. The catalysts of Blue Planet increased our customer bas which then allowed us to expand and help more vulnerable people in our local community who could not go out during Covid.

Blue Planet made many people realise the impact that plastic has on our world and how detrimental it is and will be in the future if things do not change. Therefore, our business based on reusable glass bottles bot more exposure as people understood that having milk delivered can help our environment.

However, due to Covid, in 202 Bill Coleman retired fully and is getting his well-deserved rest after over 50 years of being a milkman in both London and Eakring.

Since 2020, Robert and Kieran have been working extremely hard behind the scenes to expand the business. In April 2023, Jason (Robert and Jon's Nephew) joined the family business. His employment was due to a new delivery area being established in Ravenshead and Berry Hill.
